F:Earth Hour is a worldwide event organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and held towards the end of March annually, encouraging households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights for one hour to raise awareness about the need to take action on climate change.
S:Based on an idea successfully executed in Thailand in 2005, it was pioneered by WWF Australia and the Sydney Morning Herald in 2007, and achieved worldwide participation in 2008.
F: Earth Hour 2013 held on March 23, 2013 from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. during participants' local time. Hundreds of millions of people turned off their lights for one hour, on the same night, all across the world in a huge, symbolic show of support.
S:.Australia's biggest city, Sydney, has switched off its lights for an hour as the Earth Day climate change protest gets under way across the globe.
F:This year, Russian President Vladimir Putin is taking part for the first time.The Kremlin due to switch off its lights at 16:30 GMT along with 90 other landmark buildings in Moscow.One person wrote on Twitter: "Sydney Harbour bridge is in darkness for Earth Hour. You can even see the stars!"
S:Many cities and provinces across Vietnam, including capital Hanoi, central Da Nang and southern Ho Chi Minh City, joined in the world's Earth Hour 2013 by turning off unnecessary electrical devices for one hour.A campaign for the Earth

F:The United Nations participated in Earth Hour on Saturday by turning off the lights at its offices around the world for one hour.This is the fourth year that the United Nations joins hundreds of millions of people around the world in switching off the lights.
S: To celebrate the sixth anniversary of Earth Hour, WWF-Canada is organizing an all-ages community concert in the core of Roncesvalles Village on Saturday, March 23.
F: Over 30 cities in Indonesia, a vast archipelago country, will join in Earth Hour 2013 on Saturday (March 23) at 8:30 pm, as the world's largest environmental movement to help save the planet, Antara news wire quoting official said here on Friday.
S: Beijing's hotels ,The Ritz-Carlton has long placed a high priority on saving energy. It would be one of the Beijing hotels participating in the World Wide Fund for Nature's Earth Hour when it switches off the hotel's non-essential lighting in key areas from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm on March 23.The hotel also recently organized a vivid lecture about the Earth Hour campaign and sustainable development to students in charitable vocational school.
