在我们的正前方可以看到有两把“扇子”，大扇高11.8米，小扇高9.5米,他们不仅是景区的出入口而且是南山竹海的大门，这把大扇可以说目前国内最大的一把扇子，横跨41.5米，整个扇面都是有竹片粘贴而成的，扇面上“南山竹海”四个字以及所雕刻的“竹子”，都是从扬州八怪之一的“郑板桥”的书画中烘托而出的。
这两把扇子是按扇子的真实比例做成的，可能有人要问了，竹海为什么要用扇子来做门楼呢,一来是出于设计者别具新颖的理念，因为目前国内还没有类似的扇形大门，另外在古代，一些文人雅士都喜欢将自己喜爱的东西或事物绘于扇中。
比如，古代女子手中的扇子上都会绘上仕女图或花鸟等，而男子或文人雅士则喜欢在扇面上提上几句文诗雅句，但大部分人还是喜欢在扇面上绘上竹子的图案，以显示读书人的4清高节气，也将一切意境表达其中。
而我们用扇子作为大门也是意味着将竹海的意境表达其中。
