The latest school to fix the Fit Desk Bike Desk is Troy University, which now has a total of six in the libraries. Over the past three years, the Bike Desks have also been fixed at four other universities. The idea of pushing “active workplaces" is far from new. From standing offices to treadmill(跑步机)meetings, companies have been exploring the benefits of getting employees up from their desks—benefits that include higher morale (士气)and improved work performance. And a recent study that focuses on younger children suggests a strong connection between physical activities and good grades.Chris Shaffer, who is the director of library services at Troy University, says he thought it would be worth experimenting with the machines. “The final goal is to make the library a welcoming place that our students want to visit", says Shaffer, “If we can find a way to let our students study and become healthier at the same time, then I am all for it. ” He says the experiment is so successful so far that the university has ordered three additional Bike Desks.Troy junior Niquette says the bikes have been in use every day he has visited the library. “Keeping a proper diet and exercise schedule during college is near impossible, "he says, “These offer a special way to study and I hope the university continues to add more." Senior Raven hasn't used the Bike Desks yet but says she wishes they'd been fixed sooner. “I remember being a junior and the gym is so crowded, with the smell of sweat, loud music and people moving around," Raven says, “I think the machines are a great idea. You can do sports quietly while others focus on their study.24.What can we learn from the first paragraph?A.University students are doing more exercise now.B.Doing homework is easy for university students now.C.Troy University introduced the Bike Desk to other schools.D.Fixing workout machines in libraries is becoming popular.25.What is the second paragraph mainly about?A.The types of exercise at workplaces.B.The explanation of work performance.C.The development of active workplaces.D.The benefits of exercising during work and study.26.What is the purpose of fixing the Bike Desks according to Shaffer?A.To make the library attractive to students.B.To make students become healthier.C.To help students to get good grades.D.To do experiments on the machines.27.What do Niquette and Raven think about the bikes?A. They are easy to ride.B. They are really useful.C. They make the library noisy.D. They distract students.CI have been passionate about sewing and fashion design since I was 12. Two years ago, I designed and made a set of outfits from recyclable materials for a charity fashion show. Through this highly meaningful and profound experience, I became sensitized to the importance of protecting and preserving our environment when designing and making fashion items, resulting in my founding an organization to promote eco-friendly design and fashion. My interest has led me to research areas of fashion that have environmental implications. For example, some popular clothing stores have announced merchandizing policies designed to improve the environment. For those of us who are eco-conscious, it is incumbent upon us to evaluate whether such policies are just a marketing ploy, or represent genuine efforts to protect our environment.Three chain-stores, H&M, Urban Outfitters and Forever 21, have been promoting "green" items. After I examined their products, I have concluded that H&M and Urban Outfitters are truly helping the environment with their efforts, while Forever 21 seems to be using the 'go green' trend as a way to sell more products, rather than genuinely help the environment.Of these three stores, H&M has the most extensive eco-fashion plans. It is already well on its way to implementing its plans by increasingly blending organic cotton into their garments, as well as putting fully organic cotton items on the market. The store also belongs to the Organic Exchange Organization, which endorses growth of organic cotton. To reduce the substantial harm from non-organic cotton production, H&M is involved with the Better Cotton Initiative. Mindful of the adverse effects of climate change, the store aims to minimize transportation and energy usage. H&M labels their eco-friendly products with an official symbol, the Flower, to represent a production system that is less harmful than most traditional processes. Because of these actions and policies,H&M is already well on its way to making a difference on the environment. With its Urban Renewal brand, Urban Outfitter takes a different approach from H&M in promoting eco-friendly fashion. The brand features women's apparel made from strictly environmentally-friendly sources, such as vintage, dead stock, or surplus clothing. Urban Renewal produces fashionable garments, and embraces being eco-friendly through recycling.Unlike the other two stores above, Forever 21's eco-fashion efforts fall short; a cynic would saytheir message is downright misleading. It promotes the "'green" image, and yet many of their supposed eco-friendly products do not help the environment. For example, it sells a "Think Green Tote" that, according to the site, is meant "to send an environmentally friendly message". However, it is made of 100% non-organic cotton which is one of the most damaging fabrics to the environment, mostly because it requires greater chemical intervention compared to organic cotton. Also, the "I Love My Planet Tote" is supposed to "make a positive statement," but is also made of 100% cotton that is not organic. The only tote that is environmentally-friendly is the "H81 Organic Cotton Tote" from Forever 21's Heritage brand, made from 100% organic cotton. Now that Forever 21 has portrayed itself as being "green," it should start "walking the walk."28. The author writes the texts simply to ____.A. state we should take action but not play tricks in ecological protectionB. appeal to Forever 21 not to use commercial campaign illegallyC. remind us of the damage to the environment of traditional processesD. analyze the concept of eco-friendly design and fashion29. The underlined sentence in the last paragraph means ____.A. the Forever 21 has already been on its way to transform its negative imageB. the writer publicly urges the Forever 21 to put its campaign into practiceC. all the customers are trying not to walk into the Forever 21 to buy productsD. the environmental problem is so serious that we should pay more attention30. The passage is developed by ____.A. giving concrete figuresB. showing cause and effectC. using time orderD. making comparison and contrast31. Which of the following statements can be the best title?A. A Survey of Eco-Friendly Design on Fashion Markets.B. Green Products Are Common in Fashion Stores.C. Are Chain Stores in Fashion Really Going Green?D. Does the Trend of Eco-Friendly Help the Environment?DHow does keeping things tidy change people psychologically? You gain greater confidence in yourself. Also, you become more optimistic and calmer in the mind than before. There are several reasons for these changes:your self-image improves as you start living in tidy beautiful rooms, and you gain decision-making skills as you continue to choose between which things to throw or give away and which to keep. The way we let go of things in the Kon Mari Method plays an important role as well. The Kon Mari Method has a step where we give thanks to the things before we throw them away. Not only would you say “thank you for sparking joy in me" to a favorite piece of clothing that you wore till it was threadbare, you would also say to a piece of clothing you never wore once “thank you for teaching me that this color doesn't look good on me". You will appreciate the roles of all the things that have come to you and experience appreciation for all of them. Through this experience, you will rediscover the truth that you have been supported by so many things and you will deepen your gratitude for things you leave behind. To share a personal example, I have always had little confidence in myself. When I get nervous before a large speaking assignment, I think to myself that I'll be fine because these clothes are protecting me and these shoes are supporting me, and that calms me down. Once you start feeling constant gratitude for your things and your home through tidying up, you will start feeling relief and calm as if you are always protected by something larger than you.32.What psychological change may tidiness bring to people?A. They will become more confident.B. Their confidence will become less.C. They will become less optimistic.D. Their self-image will be damaged.33.What does the underlined word “threadbare" mean in the second paragraph?A. fashionableB. fancyC. out of dateD. worn out34.What should people show to clothes they have never worn in the Kon Mari Method?A. Regret.B. Worry.C. Gratitude.D. Patience.35.Why does the author mention his own experience in the last paragraph?A.To show off his wonderful speaking skills.B.To give an example of the benefit of tidiness.C.To explain how he has become a confident person.D.To show his special taste in choosing suitable clothes.第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出填入空白处的最佳选项,有两项为多余项。
