大自然可抗的资料On May 12, 2008, an 8.0-magnitude earthquake struck Sic huan. Thousands of people lost their lives and even more pe ople were left homeless. But, hand in hand, the Chinese peo ple faced this disaster with compassion and courage.People across China offered to make donations energetic ally. Relief materials and funds were continuously pouring into quake hit areas. What’s more, several rescue teams and medical professionals, at home and abroad, was sent to the earthquake stricken areas to search and rescue the surviv als.As far as we students are concerned, we should provide our helping hands for the earthquake stricken compatriots. We can donate our spare money to the suffering people who a re in urgent need of food and medicine. Blood donation is a lso of vital significance for those injured people. Student s who are equipped with professional skills can volunteer t o the earthquake stricken areas to rescue more lives. Besid es, our spirit support and sincere prayers can help the bro ken hearts overcome the temporary disaster.Natural DisastersIn the past hundred years, there have heen frequent natural disasters,such as floods, droughts, mud-rock flows, seismic sea waves,earthquakes, windstorms and the stretching of new deserts.The disasters have killed millions upon millions of people, destroyed countless homes, and wiped out numerous piecesof fertile land.It is urgent for us to do our best to protect it and make it a lovely place suitable to live in, for we have nowhere to go and survive except where we are now.The earth scale change of climate has brought a new kind of natural disaster and the developed and complicated city system is holding a latent risk of expanding the damage artificially. Also people has been spoiling the health since the immense quantity of chemicals have been produced and already used in pursuit of convenience and various toxic substances have been produced unintentionally and accumulated in environment. Therefore, We need some countermeasures from the viewpoint to prevent the city environment form disaster and to manage environmental risks. So we will develop and improve a new risk management system and a disaster prevention system to preserve and create the city environment where people feel easy and sound in their life.May 12th is an ordinary day in 2008,it is in this day that earthquake happened in Sichuan province.The earthquake destroyed nearly everything in Wenchuan country Sichuan province. It was terrible.We can't describle the scene what we saw with any words.Thousands of people were injured even died. And thousands of children became such unlucky ones who lost fathers or mothers , they longed to have families to continue their lives .I am sympathetic to their fate ! But I believed that we can fight against the fate and change it .For example ,there many people keeping living without food and water for about 100 hours during the earthquake!What an unbelievable thing it is !Their great spirits showed the powerful life vitality of humans!However,they must keep fighting against the death .Many schools were destroyed and there were many students and teachers who left us forever.Sadness,hoplessness and different kinds of danger spreaded out here and there !But ,fortunately ,love is around us :the Communist party helps us ,the army helps us ,the people all over the world help us .They offer us with money ,goods ,love and so on ! There we learnt that there's as much science involved as there is bravery and brawn. Met eorology, geography, engineering and management skills are a ll integral to forest fire control. We did learn a lot…! The follo wing are some of the things we learned about forest fire fighti ng.1. Study the weather. Wind shifts will play a big part in fire-fig hting strategy; an unfavorable shift may defeat all your efforts.2. Establish a defensive line. Without a large professional cre w and airborne tankers, your only chance is to dig a firebreak. Look for a favorable spot, such as a road or a ridgetop.3. Eliminate all flammable material along your firebreak. The w ider you can make the line, the better. Remove deadwood an d bushes and scatter them on the burning side of the line.4. Soak the area along and behind the firebreak with water. If there are buildings in the area, soak them as well. Remove any vehicles.5. Be wary of the fire jumping past your location and cutting you off. Watch for airborne embers. It is the world's largestelectricity-generating plant of any kind.The dam body was completed in 2006. Except for a ship lift, all of the originally planned components of the project were completed on October 30, 2008 when the 26th generator was brought into commercial operation. Currently, it contains 26 completed generators in the shore power plant, each with a capacity of 700 MW. Six additional generators in theunderground power plant are being installed and are not expected to become fully operational until around 2011. Coupling the dam's 32 main generators with 2 smaller generators (50 MW each) to power the plant itself, the total electric generating capacity of the dam will eventually reach 22,500 MW. The project produces hydroelectricity, increases the river's navigation capacity, and reduces the potential for floods downstream by providing flood storage space. From completion until September 2009 the dam has generated 348.4 TWh of electricity, covering more than one third of its project cost.The project management and the Chinese state regard the project as an historic engineering, social and economic success, with the design of state of the art large turbines, and a move toward the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. However, the dam has also flooded archaeological and cultural sites and displaced some 1.3 million people, and is causing significant ecological changes, including an increased risk of landslides. The building of the dam has been a controversial topic both in China and abroad.。
