This, dost thou doubt, sweet? Then have I Nothing to show But Calvary
I die for beauty, but was scarce Adjusted in the tomb When one who died for truth was lain In an adjoining room He questioned softly why I failed? “For beauty,” I replied. “And I for truth,-the two are truth, one; We brethren are,” he said.
And so, as kinsmen met a night We talked between the rooms Until the moss had reached our lips And covered up our names.

DIE FOR BEAUTY
Emily
Dickinson
If you were coming in the Fall I’d brush the Summer by With half a smile, and half a spurn, As housewives do, ou in year I’d wind the mouths in balls And put them each in separate Drawers
That I did always love I bring thee proof That till I loved I did not love enough That I shall love always I offer thee That love is life And life hath immortality
For fear the number fuse— If only Centuries, delayed I’d count them on my Hand Subtracting, till my fingers dropped Into Van Die men’s Land

If certain, when this life was out That yours and mime should be I’d toss it yonder like a rind And taste eternity But now, all ignorant of the length Of time’s uncertain wing, It goads me, like the goblin bee That will not state its sting.
