I Shale Gas Resource and Distribution of China II Shale Gas Progress of CNPC III Conclusions and Understanding
1. Definition of Shale Gas
Shale gas is a special kind of unconventional natural gas. Shale gas definition: natural gas occurred in the mudstone or shale with the features of self generation self storage, no air-water interface, formation and storage for a continuous large area, low porosity, low permeability and the like, it generally has no natural capacity or low-yielding and needs large-scale water power fracturing and horizontal well technology for economic exploitation with long single well production cycle.
South region Proterozoic - Paleozoic developed six sets of marine shale formation, wherein Silurian Longmaxi group and the Cambrian Qiongzhusi group shale has high organic matter content, high thickness, and great shale gas resource potential.

Method of Analogue

Conclusion: the analogy method is adopted for studying evaluation of shale gas resources under the condition of low degree of exploration.

Progress of Exploration and Development of Shale Gas in China
China National Petroleum Corporation September. 2010
Preface
In the last year, with the rapid development of global gas, three striking characters emerged. One is that we have all recognized 21st century is a century of natural gas; and the second one is that a low carbon economy and environment protection are subjects of world development, and the last one is that unconventional gas is not only changing international energy landscape, but also becoming the hot spot of global. With respect to conventional gas, shale gas is absolutely a new field. With the rapid exploitation of shale gas in USA, the shale gas production grows fast, which made the LNG program -a program planed to be imported—suspended or delayed. China has heavy demand for natural gas, however, the gas price of imported from middle Asia and the LNG program of southeast china coastal hilly regions, is estimated to be higher than 2 yuan/m3 . Relatively,China has abundant shale gas resource, and thus accelerating development and utilization of shale gas has important strategic significance to promote sustainable growth of Chinese economy and relieve shortage of petroleum resource.

Geologic Assessment of shale gas Resources
Prerequisite: If the evaluation Basin (evaluation area) has similar oil and gas geological conditions with an analogue basin ( analog area) with clear formation conditions, the oil and gas richness of the two areas is the same. Hydrocarbon generation and expulsion amount of hydrocarbon source rocks can be estimated according to oil and gas organic cause theory, the mining factor can be multiplied to know the oil and gas recoverable resources of the study area; The relation between each factor and the oil and gas resource amount should be respectively calculated for different evaluation units in the oil and gas containing system space through detailed analysis of the study area, and finally, the oil and gas resource amount under different possibilities should be calculated.
2. The global shale gas resources is abundant
The global amount of the total resources of shale gas is 456 trillion according to IHS (2005) forecast, which is equivalent to 1.4 times of conventional natural gas, and shale gas is mainly distributed in North America, Central Asia and China, the Middle East, North Africa and other regions with worldwide unconventional natural gas resources.
