Dependence of Soul
After seeing the movie Out of Africa, I really enjoy myself, and at the same time, I gain a lot of knowledge about Africa. The result of the movie is that Karen leaves Africa for Denmark, which corresponds to the title Out of Africa. But could Karen really get out of Africa? No,she can’t. Africa is her lover and she devotes all her emotion to Africa, her caring, her motivation, and even her love. The theme of the movie may be that if you fall in love with something and you live with it up to decades, then, it is impossible for you to get rid of it absolutely, I mean inmental, not in physical.
In this movie,they are also massive interesting plots and strange traditions about ancient Africa,such as the earrings of the chief, aggressive Masai and the minor relationships between white people and the black people. But as far as the plots are considered, what impresses me most is the love between Denys and Karen.
Love is a age-old topic of us and I do think of it many times, for example, I usually think that what a couple it is. From my point of view, a couple is two people who can depend on each other in soul.That is to say, they must have something in common in what they need, especially in soul. And I think Denys and Karen is this kind of relationship though they are not a couple. Take their experiences for example, firstly,when they are hunting in the forest, and they are in danger when they come across two lions, save each other with courage and concern.Obviously, they cooperate very well and they are very tacit. And this is their first common in concerning about others. Secondly, they have some good qualities in common. Denys says:“We’re not owners here. We’re just passing through.”What he says indicate that he is against the white people’s colonial domination in Africa. What’s more, it implies that he respects black people.As for Karen, she wants to build a school for Africa children in order to protect African people from innocence.She also shares food local people, cures black people of their illnesses, protect Kikuyu’sland for them to live and so on. All she has done for black people show her concern about them. And this is the second point they have in common, which is in soul. Thirdly, they both like music, poems, hunting and so on. And we can say that they have the same style in
literature and arts. This point may be the third one they have in common and it relates to interests and hobbies.
In the movie, Denys like f reedom, and he doesn’t bind Karen’s freedom, on the contrary,he gives a lot of privacy to Karen to do whatever she likes and go wherever she wants, which I think it’s good for the tighter you catch your partner, the more likely you will lose it.
I think the love between Denys and Karen is truthful, compared with Karen and Bror’s“love”,which cannot be called love for it’s based on money instead of caring about each other. Then who is the best choice for Karen? Denys, who is charming in all aspects,or Bror,who gets involved in money warships. There is no doubt that Denys is the well prime candidate for Karen. Although they don’t have a happy ending, at least, they leave nice memories, which bring short happiness to both Karen and Denys, and that’s en ough.。
