Half Beautiful half blueBeauty ruined in a tragedy always not only shocks people’s heart but also makes people thirstier for beauty. And Anna’s love is blue beauty. There is no love between Anna and Karenin. Anna is brave and honest to her own heart, while Karenin is pedantic and hypocritical. Anna is enviable, because she is beautiful, elegant and smart. However, she is also wretched, for her aunt arranged her marriage. She was married to Karenin, who is rich and powerful but elder, pedantic and hypocritical. And Karenin thought it just was God’s will that he married Anna. He was always busying with his career, and did well in his position, but he never knew how to love. Anna ever said, “He is always in the right! People say he is so religious, so clever; but they do not know how for eight years he’s crushed my life, crushed everything that was living in me—he has never once thought that I am a live woman that in need of love.” The time in the eight years, Karenin had made Anna feel smothered and unhappy. When Anna encountered handsome and charming Vronsky for the first time in Moscow, her enthusiasm was awakened. She felt happy and contradictory. She told herself to forget this encounter, for she had married and should not fall in love with anyone else except her husband. But in Vronsky’s enthusiastic chase, she gradually compromised and began to face her own love. When Vronsky fell off his horse in a race, she screamed and divulged the “amour”between them. Karenin was angry, but Anna just honestly and frankly said, “I am listening to you, but I am thinking of him. I love him and I am his mistress. I hate you, I am afraid of you…You can do what you like with me.” Karenin was angry, but he was a hypocritical man. He said to Anna that he shall ignore her behavior as long as the world knew nothing about it, and his name was not disgraced. Their relationship must remain the same. He had a high position in society and a divorce would only lead to scandal. Moreover, in spite of the complete lack of interest that he now imagined he had in his wife, he did not want to set her free so she could be with Vronsky and profit from her crime. He said to himself, “Imust not be unhappy, but neither she nor he must be happy.”He was pleased with his decision that he would keep Anna with him, hiding what had happened from the world and using all his power to break off the affair and to punish her. What’s more, he thought of another important reason in support of it, “That is the only course of action suited to my religious principles. I’m not getting rid of a guilty wife, but giving her a chance to mend her ways.” How hypocritical he is!Though Anna had little love with Karenin, she really loved her son. When Karnenin took advantage of his son to threaten Anna, Anna felt very miserable. But finally she chose Vronsky and went to travel Europe with Vronsky and at last settled in an Italian town.Nevertheless, happy days always run quickly. Though Vronsky refused an important post at Tanshkent and resigned from the army, for his love, Anna, but in his heart he was a man who wanted to devote to his career, and he didn’t think that love is everything. As time went by, he gradually felt blank and wanted to go back to Moscow. Meanwhile, Anna missed her son very much, so they went back Moscow. After they settled in Moscow, Vronsky began to restore his previous social activities, but he did not allow Anna attended with him. Vronsky was invited to many parties and other events in Petersburg high society. Sometimes there were beautiful women at these events, and Anna got very jealous imagining with them. Her jealousy filled Vronsky with horror, although he knew that her love for him was the cause of it. He had always told himself that to be loved by Anna was happiness, but he was much further from happiness than when he had followed her from Moscow. Anna was not like the woman he has first fallen in love with. He felt that she was like a faded flower that a man had picked, in which it was difficult to find the beauty that first made him picked it and destroyed it. Once Anna really wanted to go to an opera, but Vronsky was not pleased with Anna to do that, he said, “If you show yourself publicly, everybody will gossip about you and you will be humiliated.” Superficially, he did not want Anna heard the insulted words from other people and felt unhappy. In fact, he felt ashamed for their love; especially in rank and fashion. Obviously, Vronskywas something a hypocritical person, and he was also bounded to the social ethics. He demanded that Anna should divorce as soon as possible, but never the divorce solved. Then he was gradually cold to Anna.Anna’s characters doomed her thespian fate, at that time and that social background. When she chose to love Vronsky, she knew clearly that society would not forgive her. Her death is inevitable, but not because of her demoralization, selfishness and envy, however, it is because that she is a woman, an honest woman, and an honest woman in hypocritical, male chauvinism aristocracy. If she were Dolly, who was faithful and honest to keep a family, bitterly swallowed the pain given by his husband, who was a philanderer, she would continue to maintain her boring and miserable marriage with Karenin, but she was Anna Karenina; If she were Mrs. Betsy, who was dissolute in secret but noble on the face, she would not screamed with tears in the racetrack, and left her family for Europe with Vronsky; Or if she has a career of her own, using her own talent to run, then her life would be enriched, and no longer to be a little woman who considered love as everything. But she was Anna Karenina, and thought love was everything, even giving up her dear son or being insulted by other people. Once Vronsky did not allow her to go to an opera, for he did not Anna to be gossiped about in public. But Anna just cried, “I do not care! For us, there is only one thing that matters----whether we love each other. We do not need to consider other people. Why can’t I go out? I love you.” But Anna might not know that love is not equal to marriage. She just did not care the humiliation, but she could not get rid of the institution of marriage. You can be happy when you are in love, but that is not to say, you can be happy when you are in marriage. In a marriage, trust and understanding are the most important things, I think. Since Vronsky restored his previous social activities, and the time at home is less and less, Anna began to suspect that Vronsky had fallen in love with some other young and beautiful girl or girls. She was always addicting herself in her own wild guesses. She felt lonely, blank and miserable when Vronsky was not at home. As soon as Vronsky came back, Anna often quarreled with him. She thought shehad lost all the things, which should have been valued, such as her reputation and her son, to fight for her love, but at last she got nothing. Her spirit gradually broke down, and eventually she chose throwing herself under the train, and ended her live.As it is known to all, nobody is perfect. Compared with Kitty, Anna also has some shortcomings. Firstly, marriage is not just to love your husband or wife, besides, you should love and respect your love’s family. Once in a quarrel with Vronsky, Anna was so angry that she said, “I really do not care what your mother thinks and whom she wants to marry you to. I do not care about a heartless woman, whether she is cold or not, and I do not want to have anything to do with her!” These words really made Vronsky angry. In any case, Mother is really something to her child or children. Yet Kitty did well in this hand. When Levin’s brother Nikolai was dying on bed, Levin had not wanted Kitty to see Nikolai, because he thought she would be upset. But Kitty went straight to Nicolai and took his hand. She was filled with pity for the sick man, and stared at once to find ways of making him more comfortable. She sent for the doctor, found a servant to clean the room and washed Nicolai’s blankets herself. Love me love my dog, Kitty really did it. Secondly, one should leave some personal space to your love, respecting and supporting him or her. Vronsky’s social activities were inevitable in his position in the aristocracy. But as soon as Vronsky went out to attend an activity, Anna would send a note to call him back. However, after Levin’s wedding, Kitty wanted to go straight to Levin’s country estate. She knew Levine loved his work there, and that is very important to him. So she went to country with Levin. Thirdly, if you have been together with your love, and set up a family, you should do something for your family, and love your family with all heart. Anna was also the mother of Ani, her little daughter with Vronsky, but she had little love with her lovely girl. Once Dolly visited Anna, and Dolly found that Anna left her baby to nursery to take care of, and Anna’s visit to the nursery was an unusual event. Anna wanted to get the baby one of her toys, but did not know where to look for it. Most surprising of all, when Dolly askedher how many teeth the child had, Anna made a mistake and knowing nothing of the two latest teeth. Nevertheless, after gave a birth to her little baby, Kitty was always busy taking good care of her little boy. She took the little baby outdoor to breathe the clear air, carefully gave the baby his bath, and played with him to make him happy. She loved her family with all heart.Though Anna did not very well in these three aspects, I still appreciate her, for her bravery and honesty. Her love is blue, but her spirit to love is beauty. I know that extra—marital loving affair is not a good thing, even a shame and not allowed by the social ethics in all ages, and in all countries. But, if there is no love between the couple, and the marriage life between them is miserable, why can’t they divorce and try pursuing their true love? Just because of the institution of marriage? True love is not a crime. In modern times, there are still many marriages of convenience and marriages of economy. In these marriages, the couple’s life could not be happy, for there is no love between each other. But the institution of marriage maintains their relationship. In a way, the institution of marriage offers more protect to the marriages without love, and Anna’s thespian fate is a good proof. Therefore, as a warning to us, power or money is useful, but they are not equal to love and happy life. Marriage without love can not be happy and difficult to maintain a long time. We should take a deep consideration mull to marriage, choosing the person suitable to you, and don’t follow Anna’s thespian road.。
