The Battle of Midway is widely regarded as the most important naval battle of the Pacific Campaign of World War II between 4 and 7 June 1942. The battle has often been called "the turning point of the Pacific".

December 7, 1941. Japan didn’t have any formal warning, attacked the Pearl Harbor in Hawaii led President Roosevelt to proclaim December 7, 1941, “a date which will live in infamy(不光彩的)". And American declared war with Japan the second day.

The start of the war is generally held to be September 1, 1939, with the German invasion of Poland and subsequent(随后的) declarations of war on Germany by most of the countries in the British Empire and Commonwealth, and by France. Many belligerents(交战国) were at war before or after this date, during a period which spanned from 1937 to 1941, as a result of other events.
Japanese invasion of China
In July 1937, Japan captured the former Chinese imperial capital of Beiping after instigating(挑起) the Marco Polo Bridge Incident, which culminated(达到顶点) in the Japanese campaign to invade all of China. The Japanese continued to push the Chinese forces back, capturing the capital Nanjing in December 1937 and committed the Nanking Massacre.
