The marital view on Pride and Prejudice Abstract Pride and Prejudice is a novel by Jane Austen, first published in 1813. Pride and Prejudice is the masterpiece of Jane Austen,in Pride and Prejudice, she expressed such views on marriage in her description of four marriages:love is more important than money for a marriage. Though the story is set at the turn of the 19th century, it retains a fascination for modern readers, continuing near the top of lists of ‘most loved books’ such as The Big Read. It has become one of the most popular novels in English literature and receives considerable attention from literary scholars. Modern interest in the book has resulted in a number of dramatic adaptations and an abundance of novels and stories imitating Austen’s memorable characters or themes. To date, the book has sold some 20 million copies worldwide.

Ⅰ. Introduction: Pride and Prejudice is the representative work of Austin. She wrote the book from his daily life and against the social fashion sentimental content and affection of the novel writing methods. The work reflects vividly the conservative and block state of the British town life and ways of the world from the bottom of the 18 century to the beginning of the 19 century. The novel of social graffiti type was attracted the general reader. And to this day, it still gives the reader a unique art enjoyment. In pride and prejudice, Jane Austen painted carefully four piles of young men and women’s marriage, respectively is Jane and Bingley, Elizabeth and Darcy, Lydia and Wickham, Charlotte and Collins. The four marriages are very typical, such as Jane and Bingley, Elizabeth and Darcy the two young’s marriage is based on love and is a good marriage; and Lydia and Wickham’s is a reckless, thoughtless and suffering marriage; Charlotte and Collins marriage, at the time of the British society is most typical and a property marriage of mutual benefit. But, in fact, throughout the works, there is another pile not noticeable marriage, that is the lady’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bennet.

Ⅱ.The marital view on Pride and Prejudice according to five couples A. The Bennet couples’ tolerated and uncongenial marriage Mrs. Bennet was beautiful when she was young. Based on Mr. Bennet had fixed income every year, she could lived without worrying eating and wearing. So she carried a little piece of dowry marrying to Mr. Bennet. While she is actually a "unwise, uneducated and moody" woman. After marriage, her life event is that marry her daughters to good rich men. And her life comfort is calling on relatives and friends and inquiring about news. If she meets unpleasant things, she would think she is nervous breakdown. Mr. Bennet is smart, humorous and a bit strange. He bends on reading books all day long. Shortly after the marriage, he discovers that his marriage is not happy which is based on the beauty. He looks down upon his wife and also often in a scoff tone to sarcastic her. Obviously, the Bennet couple has no common language in character, hobby and other aspects. It is only for the economic marriage to maintain the faux-friendly state. Although the story reflects their unharmonious life in many aspects, apparently they accept fate calmly. Not only they, but also thousands of couples similar with them live the same day. They have ignored those disharmonies, even granted and consciously happy in their daily life. It is not strange, but is the general family pattern of that time the British society. It is the inevitable outcome of the utility marriage.

B. Charlotte and Collins: just ask property, regardless of the feelings Charlotte and Collins marriage is the most exciting in the novel we purpose. They met to combine just like lightning. Their union just recall a sentence at the beginning of the novel: "It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife. "Key words in the sentence "property " and " need" just shows that Charlotte and Collins relation. Charlotte and Collins relationCharlotte and Collins relation. " property" is the necessary conditions for him to find wife, "need" is to providing Charlotte the opportunity to get married. Their union is an unprepared but a sensible thing. Charlotte is a very practical and rational woman, kowning that it is impossible to find love with such age and unlovely face. So she only wants to find a rich man who can make her live a restfully. Fortunately, she meets Collins who is a conceited and dedicated to talk and flattering. His ideas sometimes rather funny, such as he hopes to marry, only because of his female Lord Mrs. Gardiner he said : "Mr. Collins, you should get married, be like you so of the priest should get married." So in order to finding a wife, he make up to Mrs. Bennet. His eyes scan the Bennet’s dauthter but get a brush-off. Finally he find his appropriate lady: Miss Charlotte, the 27-year-old lady,is eagerly waiting for married a man who is that class. So the two hit it off, Collins completed the the mission which female Lord given him. Charlotte also finds her favorite life safe. She likes a fisherman and gladly catch a fat fish to her own satisfaction. For this marriage, Austin’s attitude is very complicated. On one hand, Austin thinks that the thinking only according to the pure rational and pure physical, only from reality for seeking a guarantee of future life safe eventually is sad. It looks like well-fed glut in the future, but in fact it is a exchange which use their own life to a cold marriage which live with a man we don’t love. In this view, individual pay the price heavily. However, different with Charlotte, althought, Austin yearn for stable and rich life, she seeks a
