Oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico
• Oil from a pipeline in the Gulf Coast is leaking oil into the Gulf of Mexico-Rates of leakage range from 5,000 barrels a day (BP estimate) to 7,000 barrels a day (Purdue estimate) to 8,000 barrels a day ,which would make this spill even worse than the Exxon Valdez spill in 1989.
Marine mammals exposed to oil spills are affected in similar ways as seabirds. Oil coats the fur of Sea otters and seals, reducing its insulation abilities and leading to body temperature fluctuations and hypothermia.

What is oil spill
• Oil spill is release of liquid petroleum hydrocarbon into the oceans or coastal waters ,due to human activity mainly sinking or leaking of oil carrying vessels or pipelines ,countries at war ,illegal dump by industries and natural disasters.
• Weakened cement caused the underwater oil pipes to crack
What are people doing to handle the oil spill?
• Companies such as BP are attempting to clear the spill by applying thick vicious fluids twice the density of water into the site of the leak to stop the flow, so the well can then be sealed with cement and then eventually closing it.
