众所周知，一份信用证的背后往往存 在着一份由进出口商双方签订的销售 合同，但信用证与其所可能依据的销 售合同在法律上是完全独立的两份法 律文件，UCP600第二条对于信用证的 定义是：信用证是指一项不可撤销的 安排，无论其如何命名或描述，该项 安排构成开证行对相符交单予以承付 的确定承诺。

单证相符Complying presentation
传统上，在银行从事国际结算工作的员工以 及进出口企业的单证人员对于相符交单的 理解是所谓的“八字真言”，即“单证相 符、单单一致”；而在UCP600的规则之下， 相符交单的涵义被扩大了：受益人提交的 单据不但要做到“单证相符、单单一致”， 而且要做到与UCP的相关适用条款相一致， 还要做到与国际标准银行实务（简称ISBP） 一致，只有同时符合以上三个方面的要求， 受益人所提交的单据才是相符单据。
