1 Pre-Columbian era – primitive stage
• The first inhabitants are believed to have come to Canada from Asia about 12000years ago. • Some likely crossed a temporary land bridge that joined Siberia and Alaska.
The results of the Seven Years’ War
• Under the Treaty of Paris, which ended the war in 1763, France officially ceded New France to Britain. • Britain issued the Royal Proclamation of 1763, which established the province of Quebec out of the inhabited portion of New France located in the lower wrence Valley. • In 1774, the British passed a law (the Quebec Act) that guaranteed the French protection of their language and religion.

• The earliest known documented European exploration in Canada are described in the Icelandic Sagas, which recount the attempted Norse colonization of the Americas • The Norse were the first to arrive around the year 1000. • However, the Norse adventures in Canada came to an end well before 14th and 15th century.

Historic facts
The name of the country, Canada, was derived from the Huron-Iroquois ―Kanata‖, meaning a village or settlement.
• There are several reports of contact made before Christopher Columbus and the age of discovery between First Nations, Inuit and those from other continents.

Treaty of Paris
• often called the Peace of Paris, or the Treaty of 1763, was signed on 10 February 1763 . • by the kingdoms of Great Britain, France and Spain, with Portugal in agreement. • It ended the French and Indian War/Seven Years' War. • The treaty marked the beginning of an extensive period of British dominance outside Europe.

3.1 Colonial rebellion
Development: The French Canadians struggled to preserve their culture and to adapt to a new system of government. In 1826, formed the Parti Patriote, which was led by LouisJoseph Papineau. The Partiotes drew up a list of demands for change, which was rejected by the British. In 1837, the Partiotes tried to overthrow the government by force.
• The 17th century, Britain ,France launch a struggle for Canada, the auk occupied some surrounding regions around the French territory , thus besieged the latter.
Conflicts in New France
• New France English coloest, in which the French in Canada were greatly outnumbered. • A result of numerous wars between the parent countries, English and France.
• one of the oldest European settlements in North America • Champlain's founding of Quebec City in 1608, by Samuel de Champlain • Marked the beginning of New France, and thus the true beginning of Canada.
