Mencius, however, tended to emphasize Confucius’s virtue, whereas Hsun Tzu emphasized his learning. Although Hsun Tzu thus honors Confucius, he sharply attacks Mencius.

Hsun Tzu (Xun Zi) (fl. 298-238 B.C., mainly active during the 60 years), whose given name was K’uang (Kuang), and whose cognomen was Ch’ing (Qing), born in the State Zhao (in present Shanxi and Hebei province).
不过孟子较重孔 子之德,而荀子 较重孔子之学, 对于孟子攻之甚 力。

Hsun Tzu regarded his contemporaries as men who were clear-sighted on some points, but blind on others. In contrast to such men of ‘perverted knowledge’, Confucius ‘was benevolent and wise and was not blind’.
孟子与荀子皆尊 孔子。荀子认为 孔子为最能“全” 能“尽”能“粹” 者。他认为当时 诸家,皆有所见 同时有所蔽。
