Three friends were sailing around the world when their Boat was hit by a big storm. They struggled to a deserted island with as much food as they could carry. For a few weeks they lived on the food, but at last there was only a piece of bread left. They decided that whoever had the best dream that next night could have the bread. The next morning they took turns to describe their turns. The first man dreamed about eating the best food and wines in the world’s most wonderful restaurant. The second man dreamed about traveling to all the wonderful places on a flying carpet. The third man said he dreamed the bread was going bad. So as soon as he woke up, he ate the bread because he didn’t wan’t to waste it.

Once there was a captain. He was very interested in medicine. One day a lazy sailor pretended to be ill. As soon as the captain heard of it, he went to seen the sailor. He told the man to rest for a few days and told the other sailors to do some of his work. They were very angry and decided to do something to “cure” the man. One of the sailors mixed up a drink of some unpleasant things and gave it to the “sick” man. When the “sick” man drank it, he really felt sick. It was so horrible that he began to throw up. He did not want this medicine any more. Soon the captain learned about this and made the man work hard for the rest of the journey.

When Susan left high school, she wanted to go to university. Though her father was poor, he encouraged Susan to take the entrance exam. Susan took the exam and passed . Her father was very proud of her and was determined to find the money for her education. He sold his car and asked his boss to give him three hours overtime every day. He worked very hard but did not complain. He thought his daughter’s education was worth it. A year passed. Susan took her first-year examination. When the results were announced she ran home to tell her father the news. She said he would be pleased with the results. He thought Susan had passed the exam. But Susan said that he could have his car back and stop working hard.

A restaurant claimed that it had the biggest menu in the world. At the bottom there was a notice. It read that they would add any new dish immediately. One day a man walked in, looked at the menu and decided to take the challenge. He said that he wanted two Indian elephants ears on toast. The waiter wrote the order and said it wouldn’t take long. The man was surprised and disappointed. Then the waiter returned with a very unhappy look on his face. He said he couldn’t bring the man the dish because they had run out of bread.

5. How does Maria like studying for higher degrees? She thinks it would be tough/ difficult.

A poor young man wanted to give his girl friend a birthday present. He went to a gift shop and found a beautiful vase. But he was too poor to buy it. Then the manager of the shop noticed him and asked what happened. He told the manager everything. The manager decided to help him. He pointed to a broken vase and said that he would ask a worker to wrap it and send it to his girl friend but pretend to drop it. On his girl friend’s birthday, everything happened as planned. The worker dropped the vase. But when the vase was unpacked, the guests saw that each piece was packed separately.
