In this study, only long crested wave is considered and ITTC wave spectrum is applied. Significant wave height, HS, is 3.25m, modal period, TP, is 9.6second (sea state 5), and initial wave heading is 180deg.

3. As for irregular wave condition, the turning performance can be affected by wave random phase. When the ship encounters the beam sea, the wave elevations play an essential role in the change of ship speed and turning trajectory.
2. For regular wave, the wave drift force is the most critical factor affecting turning performance. The wavelength is getting shorter, the drift distance of the turning trajectory becomes larger.

In this study, the wave drift force is pre-calculated according to these related parameters(ship’s forward speed, lateral speed, wave heading and frequency), stored in a database and used for the maneuvering simulation
In this study, wave spectrum is divided into 500 parts and three different wave phase combinations are considered.
Conclusion
1. When using the corrected wave drift forces according to the lateral speed, the simulation results considering the lateral speed show better agreement with the experimental data than those without consideration.
