Beingunable to compress against atmospheric pressure,Roots pumps are normally used in combinationwith backing pumps such as rotary vane pumps, liquid ring pumps and oil-sealed rotary Pistonvacuum pumps. They find wide application inthe fields of metallurgy, chemical industry, electronics and textile,etc.1.2 Design featuresThe pumped gas is delivered from top toBottom verticallyHigh pumping speed in a wide pressure rangeFast startingInsensitive to dust and water vapour containedIn gasOil-free pump chamber helpful for obtainingclean vacuumWeak vibration and low noiseLow drive power and low cost for running andmaintenanceNotes:Do not evacuate liquid media.Do not evacuate inflammable or explosive gas.Backing pumps should be used.It is suggested to equip a filter at the inletif the gas to be pumped contains solid particles.1.3 AdvantagesThe series of roots pumps, as a result of newtechnology in the structural design and moreadvanced and reasonable manufacturer process , bear the following advantages:1.3.1 Weak vibration and low noise:Due to high-accurate dynamic balance technology, helical gears made by a specialized manufacturerand imported bearings.1.3.2 Effective elimination of oil leak:By means of imported shaft seal and labyrinthpiston design.1.3.3 Evacuation of high boiling point workingmedia (with the exception of Model ZJP-1200): By means of protection gas system.1.3.4 Can do overload protection set overflows valve.1.3.5 Easy testing and measuring:By use of special ports at inlet and outlet fortesting and measuring1.3.6 Convenient for design, installation andconnection of the system:Through arrangement of several exhausting portsfor different modes such as side or bottomevacuation.2 Operation principle andStructure description2.1 Operation principleRoots pump is a rotative, positive displacement pump. Two figure"8" rotors rotate at high speed in opposite direction synchronously by means of toothed gearing. The gas is transferred from the inlet at the top to the outlet and expelled to the atmosphere by a backing pump(See the following diagram of gas flow).(ÆÊÇÐ)ÊÓͼ2ÊÓͼ1(ÆÊÇÐ)ÊÓͼ3View 3 (sectional)Roots pumps and description1.G e a r c h a m b e r 12.L o c k i n g n u t 2.E n d p l a t e 13.P r o t e c t i v e s l e e v e 3.P u m p h o u s i n g 14.R e d u c i n g v a l v e 4.M a i n p i s t o n 15.R e d u c i n g v a l v e c o v e r 5.S e c o n d a r y p i s t o n 16.I n l e t s u p p o r t i n g c o l l a r 6.S u p p o r t e r p i s t o n 17.O u t l e t s u p p o r t i n g c o l l a r 7.D r i v e g e a r 18.B e a r i n g 18.D r i v e n g e a r 19.B e a r i n g 29.P r e s s u r e p l a t e 20.T o o t h e d r i n g 10.S p l a s h r i n g 21.O i l e r 11.P i s t o n r i n g 22.M o t o rX X X X X XZJP-30F ZJP-30ZJP-70F ZJP-70ZJP-150ZJP-300ZJP-600ZJP-1200L 875107512501482D1230360350452D2100160140170D3100160140170D4120140190180B 440515606847E1310340480570E2140150210260E3120130190210E4245ÎÞ275475E5ÎÞ215275320H 402500574690F1200240280350F2175200240300F3175200250300F4150ÎÞ130207F5ÎÞ120130207K1DN 100DN 160DN 200DN 250K2DN 80DN 100DN 160DN 200K3DN 80ÎÞDN 160DN 200K4ÎÞDN 100DN 160DN 200K512121616710711706707708709702703704705698699700701DN 83DN 84690691692693694695696697189DN 80DN 81DN 8218518618718890185ÎÞ370100340240908354002091415 Installation5.1 UnpackingAfter unpacking, check all items and manual againstthe packing list.Take out the pump carefully.5.2 Installation requirementsThe pump should be installed in a clean, bright andwell-ventilated place. The ambient temperature should be in the range of5-40C and humidity should be less than 90%.There should be enough space for operation andmaintenance. The pump should be mounted on an even base whichusually is a cementatory foundation or steel frame. The pump is not allowed to be mounted on a vibrationsurface(e.g. backing pump).5.3 Pipe connection5.3.1 Inlet pipeUsually, the inlet pipe should have the same ID asthat of the inlet. After installation, avoid any pressstress to the pipe. If necessary, use bellows or otherflexible pipe. It is suggested to equip a filte r at the inl etif the gas to be pumped contains solid particles.5.3.2 Exhaust pipeUsually, the exhaust pipe should have an ID not lessthan that of the backing pump inlet. A diameterreducing may be used for the transition from theoutlet to the backing pump inlet ,A solenoid forchecking or that for venting should be equipped inthe pipe to prevent the oil back flow from the backingpump. A flexible connection may be required to eliminatethe vibration influence of the backing pump.5.3.3 Protection gas system (with the exception ofModel ZJP-1200)For fear of oil contamination resultedfrom high boiling-point workin media(e.g. solvent)during evacuation, a sealing chamber is designedbetween the working chamber and the gear chamberand the lubrication chamber to be filled with protectiongas(e.g. N2). This design can both protect the pumpoil contamination and keep the pump chamber oil-free.The connection of protection gas system is given inthe following diagram.Protection gas system connectionÀäÈ´Ë®Èë¿ÚCooling water inletÀäÈ´Ë®³ö¿ÚCooling water outlet5.3.4 Cooling-water pipeRoots pumps need water-cooling.The cooling water pipe can be connected to thenozzle with clamp to form a water circulation.5.3.5 Electrical connectionThe drive motor requires 3-phase alternatingcurrent. Special demand can be met by specialdesign provided that this demand is made inadvance. The mains voltage must comply with the valueon the motor plate Roots pump must beinterlocked to the backing pump. Roots pumpshould turn on after the backing pump is runningfor a while.5.3.6 Checking of pump rotation directionBefore installation(including installation of inlet andoutlet),the pump rotation direction should bechecked in the following way:Put a piece of softcover (e.g.cardboard) on the inlet and turn onthe power. If the soft cover deforms downwards by jogging switch, that means the electrical connection is right. In case of reversal direction powerconnection should be interchanged to ensure thatthe pump rotate in line with the designated direction.6 Operation and procedure6.1 Preparation for startingTurn on the cooling water and make sure it is inorder.suggest using industrial sofe wate ascooling water, water pressure is 0.2~0.3MPaCheck the lubrication oil level, which should reachthe marking line(the center of glass) After oil filling or changing, if any,the plug should be turned tightly.Check the rotation direction6.2 Starting procedureFollowing is a diagram of a typical Roots pumpinggroup:1 Vacuum chamber2 High vacuum valve3 Roots pump4 Low vacuum valve5 Backing pumpTurn on the cooling water.Start the backing pump.Open the low vacuum valve.Open the high vacuum valve.Start Roots pump.6.3 Shut-down procedureTurn off the high vacuum valve.Turn off Roots pump.Turn off the low vacuum valve.Turn off the backing pump.Turn off the cooling water.6.4CautionsDuring operation, keep watch for temperature, vibration and sound of the pump. If any abnormality appears stop the pump for examination. For a long period out of running, especially in winter, drain out all remaining water and dry out through blowing.7 Maintenance and troubleshooting7.1 MaintenanceCheck the oil level, cooling water and voltagedaily. Check the oil quality monthly.Check the shaft seal quarterly.Make overhaul yearly including the followingexamination:bearing, piston ring, gear and seal ring.7.2 Disassembling and reassemblingBefore disassembling, measure and record thegaps between the parts. When disassembling, never hammer heavily toavoid any damage or scratch.Replace all defective parts and record the causesfor replacing. Before reassembling, clean the parts. After reassembling, make trial run.Make performance test before putting the pump into use.7.3 TroubleshootingNote: Any unit or part returned for maintenance or repair must be free from harmful substances(e.g, of radioactive nature). If any, please tell us.8Spare parts and consumables。
