非營利組織定義

中文為非營利組織，泛指為提供服務而非以獲利 為目標之組織，因此NPO組織具有服務社會大眾 的公益使命。

❖ NPO至少有下列之意涵：
（一）非營利組織與營利組織最大不同在於大多數合法 設立的非營利組織皆標榜「公共」的使命和「公益」的 功能，以吸收運用社會資源，是一個「公共財」的生產 者。
（二）非營利組織發揮公共使命，擴展公共領域，並擬 聚民間互助的能量，強化台灣民主的基礎及紮根力量。

An organization whose primary objective is to support an issue or matter of private interest or public concern for non-commercial purposes.
Nonprofits may be involved in an innumerable range of areas relating to the arts, charities, early childhood education, politics, religion, research, sports or some other endeavor.

根據內政部的統計資料，於1987年社會團體總數有 11,329家，2004年增加到21,737 家，2005年6月底止統 計則已增加到25,136個
