不少学生在记单词时，采用背诵字母方式，如学“study”这个单词，就s-t-u-d-y的一个字母一个字母背诵。
这样做，对于一些字母较少的单词还容易记住，但对一些字母较多的，记起来就困难了。
并且有时字母记住了，但在排列时，又排错了。
实际上，背字母记单词是记忆单词的一个误区。
那么，应如何记忆单词呢？如何通过音标记住英语单词？首先，先记住固定字母组合常发的音，其次遇见新单词时，要根据字母组合划分一个单词，这样就能做到会读就会拼了，对于一些较长、音节较多、无拼写规律的单词，这种方法很有效也很方便；但如果有规律的话，譬如有前缀或后缀的就把一个单词拆成若干个记忆。
