The doctor-relationship forms one of the foundations of conteporary medical ethics. Most universities teach medical students from the beginning, even before they set foot in hospitals, to maintain a professional rapport with patients, uphold their dignity, and respect their privacy.

The discus throw is a track and field event in which an athlete throws a heavy disc— called a discus—in an attempt to mark a farther distance than their competitors. It is an ancient sport, as demonstrated by the fifth-century-BC Myron statue, Discobolus. Although not part of the modern pentathlon, it was one of the events of the ancient Greek pentathlon, which can be dated back to at least to 708 BC.

Richard Selzer was an American surgeon and author. In 1960, following a surgical internship and residency at Yale University, he joined the faculty of Yale as a professor of surgery, where he remained until his retirement in 1985. Beginning in the 1970s, Dr. Selzer became well known as an author as well.

The Discobolus of Myron ("discus thrower") is a Greek sculpture completed towards the end of the Severe Period, figuring a youthful ancient Greek athlete throwing discus, circa 460–450 BC.
Myron is best known for his studies of atheletes in action, particularly the discus throw, which is the epitome of strength, grace, elegance, vitality and energy.
