Reflection on the micro-teaching
It is the second time for us to do the micro-teaching in class. Actually, each time gives me a very different feeling.
When the first time I did the micro-teaching before so many people, I was totally a novice, which has no experience of teaching English in public. So nearly two weeks before the class, I began to prepare for the lesson. Listening to the material, memorizing the text, thinking about the proper activities, choosing the most effective exercises, sequencing the whole class, I thought about these things again and again and corrected the lesson plan for several times. However, even though I though I have prepared very well, when I was standing on the stage, I was very nervous. I found my voice was shivery and I could not organize my language. The most horrible thing is that when I finished my introduction of the first activity, I found there was no respond in the class. After that class, Professor Wang gave us many suggestions and pointed out what we should improve. Though I felt quite depressed because I had made some mistakes during the first micro-teaching, I was still very happy because I have learned so much through this experience. Actually, the most important thing I learned through the first micro-teaching is the distance between theories and practice. When I prepared, I thought there won’t be any problem because I followed every step according to our course book. However, when I stood on the stage and put those theories in the practice, I found it was not easy. In the real life, there are always many problems that we can not foresee and at that time, I think experience is the most important thing.
For this second time micro-teaching, I become more familiar with it and gain more confidence. Maybe one of the re asons is the “students” sitting down the stage are all my friends and towards them I don’t feel nervous. Still, I have prepared for a long time and have paid attention to the problems which I had last time. Through this time’s micro-teaching, I have two main feelings,
First of all, teaching is a process of familiarizing.
Just as I have said before, I think experience is very important as a teacher. Through the practice of two micro-teaching, I can strongly feel the improvement of myself. I can confidently and naturally stand on the stage. I can speak fluently without hesitating and my
voice is not shivery. I can organize the class more logically…I think these are all because I become more familiarize with it.
Secondly, if we treat something seriously, there must be some retreatment.
Actually, at first, I think micro-teaching must be very easy because I am quite confident at public speaking. I didn’t seriously prepare for the micro-teaching, so when I rehearsed that, I found it was really terrible. So I decided to treat this seriously and when I taught on the stage, I realized how important it is to prepare. I can have more time to think about the problems come up in the class; I can have more time to organize my language…
To conclude, I do think that micro-teaching is a very important and effective way to practice our ability. In October, we will all go to the middle school and I believe having this experience will help us more.。
