It is sometimes convenient to categorize packages by layer or function: “primary”, “secondary”, etc. (Figure5-2)

1、What is packaging? Packaging is the technology of enclosing or protecting products for
distribution, storage, sale, and use. Packaging also refers to the process of designing, evaluating, and producing packages. Packaging can be described as a coordinated system of preparing goods for transport, warehousing, logistics, sale, and end use. In many countries it is fully integrated into government, business, institutional, industrial, and personal use.

But industrial packaging has a significant impact on the cost and productivity of logistics. Industrial packaging is also known as the exterior packaging, and is considered to be grouped into larger units for handling during transportation and storage. The weight, cube and fragility of industrial packaging in an overall product line determine transportation and material-handling requirements. If industrial packaging is not designed for efficient logistics processing, overall system performance will suffer.
