Step 1: Warming- up and lead in
1. Today’s English saying
1. Happiness lies first of all in health.幸福首先在于健康。

As we know, all of us want to be happy. Do you know where happiness is from? It’s from health. Do you know how to be happy? We should be healthy.
2. Class activities
Last period, we had a class activity, and there is an English saying in it. Let’s chant again.
Wash your hands, have a bath. Open the window, take a breath.
Early to bed, early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise.
3. Ask and answer
(1) Is washing your hands good or bad for your health?
(2) Is Opening the wind and taking a fresh breath good or bad for our health?
(3) Is late to bed and late to rise good or bad for our health?
Step 2: Presentation
Today we will know some other good or bad habits for our health.
Look at the pictures on the screen then answer and learn.
Look at Picture 1.
What is he doing? He is doing morning exercises.
Is doing morning exercises good or bad? I t’s good.
Look at Picture 2.
(1)Look at the picture, The boy is throwing litter about.
What’s the meaning of “litter”? It means “垃圾,扔垃圾”in Chinese. Read after me.
(2) Is throwing litter good or bad? Yes, it’s bad

Step 3: Learning
(1) Ask the students what the meanings of “You must”and “You mustn’t/Don’t”?
(2) Ask the students to match using “You must” or “You mustn’t” and the phrases in the right box.
(3) Ask the students to read according to the example:
If you want to be healthy, you must wash your hands before meals. 2. Part 1a:
(1) Listen to the tape and answer some questions:
① What are they talking about? They are talking an article about smoking.
② What does the article say? It says smoking is bad for our lungs and it may cause cancer.
③What does Maria’s father think of smoking? He thinks it can help him
relax.
④ What does Maria say? She says, “ I must ask him to give up smoking.”
(2) To learn some new words and phrases:
an article about smoking, smoke, cause, cancer, give up doing
(3) Ask the students to read part 1a again.
Step 4: Practice
Ask the students to practice using the phrases in part 1b according to part 1a.
Step 5: Consolidation
Ask the students to retell part 1a using the key words on the screen: must n’t read in the sun, an article about…, say…be bad for…cause cancer, give up…
Possible version: Wang Junfeng is reading an article about smoking in the sun. Maria says her father also smokes and he thinks smoking can help him to relax, but the article says smoking is bad for our lungs and it may cause cancer. So Maria wants to ask her father to give up smoking.
