辨析 cause/reason/excuse(1)cause 指产生某种现象或结果的必然原因,即主要是事实方面的原因,常用cause of...。

(2)reason 指用来解释某种现象或结果的理由。

这种理由可能是也可能不是真正的原因,强调逻辑推理方面的理由,常用reason for...。

(3)excuse 指为免受指责或推卸责任而找的“理由,借口”。

辨析 occur/happen/take place/break out(1)occur 属于正式用语,指“按计划使某事发生”,通常所指的时间和事件都较确定。

在以具体事物、事件作主语时,可与happen 互换使用;表示在脑海中出现某种想法时用occur ,则不能用happen 。

(2)happen 是表示“发生”的最普通用词,它一般指意外事件的发生。

(3)take place 意思是“发生”,多指有目的、有步骤地发生,因此多指变化、进步等。

(4)break out 多指战争、地震、火山、火灾的突然发生。

辨析 hit/beat/strike/knock(1)hit 指“打中或对准……来打;敲打或打击对方的某一点;受欢迎的人或事物”。

(2)beat 着重“连续地打击”,例如:殴打或体罚;也指在游戏、竞赛或战争中击败对方;也指“心跳”。

(3)strike 通常指一下一下地打或敲击;留下印记等;还有“打动;使……着迷;某种想法突然闪现在脑海里”的含义;也可指“(钟)敲响”。

(4)knock指敲打并伴有响声,它还有“打倒,打翻”的意思。
