英语中有些动词作不及物动词时，宾语实际上 是隐含在动词之中的，译成汉语时往往需要把它 表达出来，否则意思就不够明确。 She often tells her son to wash before meal.

增词，亦称补充，是指在译文中增加某些原文中虽无其字 但有其意的词，以便更忠实通顺地表 达原文的思想内容。

在重大问题上，克林顿在国防和外交政策方面采取右倾的态度， 在社会安全和医疗保健方面采取“左”倾的态度。

当具体名词表达一种抽象概念时，汉译时也常根 据上下文增加一些适当的名词。 He felt the patriot rise within his breast. 他感到一种爱国热情在胸中激荡。

修辞性增词大都出于译文行文上的考虑，因此，修辞性 增词往往出现在译者推敲、校正和润饰译文行文的过程 中，而且所增加的词往往是不改变原文词句意思的语气 补足词、强调性副词或其他修辞上所需要的词汇。其中， 为了使译文明确、强调或生动而重复一些关键性的词， 也被视为修辞性增词 。
