It is beard by a full-time staff and specialized agencies, which has purpose, systematic, and organized. School education wants to influence the physical and mental development of the educated as a direct target. Because of the same propose of school education, there are some similarities in the education of Britain and China. The similarities include the below factors: 1. Both in China and Britain, school education includes primary education, secondary education and higher education. 2. Emphasize the development of students on Educational philosophy. Britain experts stress such an educational philosophy, "Every Child Matters". This is reflected in ensuring the safety of children, ensuring the health of children, ensuring them enjoy school life, ensuring them learn something and receive something, and ensuring them know how to make a positive contribution to the society. This is interlinked with China's "Three All" (which means all for students, for students in all and for all students) in essence. 3. Emphasize teachers’ professional development and continuing education in teachers’ training. Both China and Britain attach importance to the professionalism of teachers, focus on training their own quality.Because of different history, culture and economic strength, China and Britain have different education ways, mainly reflected in educational thinking and educational methods.1.the different thinking: China attaches importance to the knowledge-education, but Britain attaches importance to the capacity-education. With the deep influence of Confucius's idea, China focuses on the importance of knowledge education. Teachers teach students whatever textbooks have; the examination can not break away from textbooks. Even when children go home after school, parents still ask them to take out their textbooks and let them consolidate the content they have learned in the class, then familiar with the new content; they can not get rid of the fixed framework of knowledge-education model. But the British teachers focus on capacity-education, they stress that the students can familiar with the things and phenomena what they want to know about, then under teachers’ instruction and guidance, they can find the right answers and discover new knowledge. British teachers pay more attention to train the children’s sense of independence, and let them to take the initiative. 2. The different method: the two countries have different ways to achieve its goal in education, for instant, the British students learn more subjects than the Chinese students while the Chinese student have to study in school for longer time; the class generally consists of more than 60 students, twice of the British.; the teaching way in China is almo st the teacher’s lectures while in Britain, the students doexperiment by themselves and discuss more. 3. The difference also reflects in the centre of the class. The teaching class in China takes teachers as the center. In lectures and discussions, students prefer to the former. Students hope teachers can teach all of the knowledge about one theme, but not willing to be asked questions by teachers. In the traditional class in China, we always can see that teachers stand on the platform relating things from beginning to ending, but not ask for questions. The teaching class in Britain takes students as the center. Teach and learn is decided by student at large extent. The class looks like a discussion meeting-place, teachers appear as the status of macroscopic monitors, they teach little, and give time to students. Teachers don’t use great effort to explain the question clearly, but try to guide students to finds themselves. In this class, students must throw themselves in actively thought, so it produces enthusiastic and vivid discussion. When students meet questions that they are hard to understand, they will ask teachers for help immediately and teachers will try to guide student’s thought once again until questions are all be solved. Of course, this continuous communication between teachers and students is good to student’s study, it at large extent developed the student’s ability of independent thinking. In addition, there is also difference between the two countries in other aspects. Britain has more compulsory years of education than China (11years in Britain and 9 years in China), while the higher education hasless years, British education spend only three years in university and one year to get a master degree. And term arrangements are also different. There are two semesters in China and the Britain has three terms. The distribution system of teachers between China and Britain is also different and so on. All of these reasons result from different teaching methods. From the difference of education between UK and China, we our group members conclude that there is something of British education worth reading. Firstly, student is the center of the class in Britain and they can choose what to learn and how to learn. Their teachers martiain that the aim of students study is to know new things, but not to recite contents they have known. This type of class arise student’s great interest in studying. Secondly, the Chinese teachers teach student what to know and how to do while the British teachers are just guiders. Students are encouraged to search information of the new things they are interested by themselves and do experiment to discover something new. No one would tell you what to learn, how to go, what you need to do is to explore, to try, to find by yourself. It really benefits students and improve their independence. We have talked about the primary school and middle school but how about the higher education such the universities. As we all know, the Oxford University and Cambridge University is the world-famousuniversities in Britain. When the cabinet ministers of UK went to universities, they nearly all went to one or the other of these two. As the world-famous universities, what are the features of these two universities are most admired? The two widely admired features of Oxford and Cambridge: are the college system and the tutorial system. The college system of Oxford and Cambridge: is one whereby all students live in college during at least part of their course. The relation between universities and the college is just like that between the central government and local government in United Stated, the Oxford University and Cambridge University prescribes syllabi, arranges examination and award degree. The college is responsible for the students’life and the standard and the time of admitting students is decided by each college. The value of this system lies in fostering a community spirit in which a useful mingling of intelligence can take place. In our opinion, the college system should be extended to our countries because this kind of system take the characteristics and the different The different requirements of the development of different majors into account, and universities provide more freedom for its college and meanwhile in the end of a year, the university can rank for the college in accordance with the results of all college undergraduates, according to certain rules of scoring. The ranking can promote competition between colleges. The other feature that is widely admired is the tutorial system of Oxford and Cambridge. It is one whereby each student gets personal tuition once a week in his tutor’s own room. Each student get personal tuition once a week in his or her tutor’s room, sitting in an armchair and reading out an essay which he or she the tutor then discuss. This, with a weekly programmer of private study, is considered so important at Oxford and Cambridge. The tutorial system benefits students a lot since it provide students opportunity to communicate with his or her tutor and discuss problems with them, and also they can ask questions conveniently when they are confused, In this way, it does help students to broaden horizons and encourage the ungraduates to think more when question is given out by their tutors therefore it is of great importance to extend this tutorial system in our country if we want to Improve the quality of the higher education. However it seems not easy to come true in China for lack of teachers and large number of ungraduates .In my college, we also have the tutorial system. A team of four students has a tutor while we didn’t meet once a week let along discuss topics together. Even I just meet my tutor since the first term of my university. So in our country, tutorial system exists but doesn’t play an impo rtant role in university. Only if we use it in a proper way will it benefit us and the higher education of our country. With the great development of society, no matter in China or Britain, the higher education has made a great progress, for example, in China, more and more universities are founded and more and more senior school students are adopted because of the lower standard. While, what benefit can we get from the higher education. Firstly, it is reported that the development of higher education has direterly increase the GDP growth. In the early 1960 s American economists Schultz analyzed the contribution of human capital on economics, the empirical research shows that the United States 1929 ~ 1957 years because education investment of the realization of the economic benefits (net benefits) for 49.5 billion us dollars, accounting for the same period the United States economic growth of 70% of the balance of 71 billion dollars, accounting for the 1929-1957 national income growth of 33% of the total amount of $152 billion. Chinese scholars have also do research and prove this point. Secondly, the development of higher education, pull the expansion of domestic demand. With development of higher education, more and more parents invest more money in their ch ildren’s education and it also opened up the market for educational institutions to help either the students who can’t enter universities or adults to get higher education. Thirdly, the development of higher education increases personal gain. Students get more knowledge and acquire more skills from higher education and then they can get higher paid and increase their income. However, the development of higher education needs huge capital investment, education form of fixed assets. At the same time education activities, research activities also want to use a lot of labor, the whole nation now engaged in education work of the staff more than 10 million, college students more than 200 million. And what is more important, if we only develop the higher education in quantity but not in quality, it will arise more problems, for example, more and more students are addimitted to universities while more and more graduates couldn’t find a job .A large quantities of universities demand huge investment and labor while our higher education is still in a low level.ConclusionFrom this discussion, we learn the similarity and difference of education between China and UK, discuss the higher education and think what we can learn from the British education according to the weak point of our country’s education. Then we all agree that we can learn from college system and tutorial system of the two world-famous universities the Oxford and the Cambridge.。
