本课语法: 直接引语 and 间接引语 在日常交流中,有时我们需要引述别人的话。 直接引用别人的原话(放在引号内)就是直接 引语, • 用自己的话转述别人的话叫间接引语。
• 1. ‘ I am inquiring about a certain patient.’ Mr. Gilbert said. • 2. ‘Was Mr. Gilbert’s operation successful?’ he asked. • 3. ‘ Yes, it was,’ the doctor told him. • 4. ‘When will Mr. Gilbert be allowed to go home?’ he asked.
eg.The doctor operated on Jim yesterday.

• While John Gilbert was in hospital, he asked his doctor to tell him whether his operation had been successful, but the doctor refused to do so. The following day, the patient asked for a bedside telephone.
5.alone
adj. 独自的,单独的 不放在名词之前修饰名词,只能作系动词表语。 He likes being alone. His house stands alone on the hill. adv.独自地 He lives alone in an apartment. let alone 更不用说 leave .... alone 别打扰某人某物,让...一个人呆着 lonely 孤独的,寂寞的 alone 提及人,表示一个人待着 on one's own eg.I am living _______, but I do not feel _______.

一般疑问句:ask/wonder + whether/ if+从句 She said ,"Are you going interested in English. He ask (me) if /whether I was interested in English. 选择疑问句: ask/wonder + whether…+or…/or not I asked him, “will you stay at home or go to a film tonight?" I ask him whether he would stay at home or go to a film that night. 反意疑问句:ask/wonder + whether/if +从句 "You've already got well, haven't you?" she asked. She asked whether /if he (I ) had already got well. 特殊疑问句: ask+ sb.+特殊疑问词+从句 He ask me ,“What‘s your name?”(疑问语序) He asked me what my name was.(陈述语序)

• 陈述句:say +that+从句 tell+ sb. +that+从句 • She said to me" I will came back an hour ago." • She told me (she said to me) that she had come back an hour before.

3. following adj. 下一个,接着的 Read the following sentences aloud. He came back the following day. the following question following generation 下一代 the next day, the following day 第二天 the next week, the following week第二个星期 follow v. 跟随,沿着,采纳 A dog followed its master . He followed the passengers on to the train. You go first and I will follow . 周日过后是周一。 不要走要快,我跟不上你。 follow this road follow one's advice
8.certain
adj. 确定的,有把握的,可以与sure通用
They are certain(sure) to be late. sure和certain相比,后者语气更强一些,而且在it作主语时,只能用 certain。 eg.It is certain that they will be late.形式主语 adj.某一个 a certain patient For certain reasons, I will be absent for the meeting. some修饰单数可数名词,也表示某一 some person for some reason/for a certain reason adj.可靠的,确实的,毫无怀疑余地的(uncertain) certain evdience 可靠的证据

inquire sth. of sb. 向某人询问某事 inquire about sb. /sth.打听消息=ask for information He inquired of the policeman the way. I inquired of him whether he would come to the party. I would like to inquire about the bus to Beijing. inquire sb's name 询问某人的名字 n. inquiry
