Objective 1. Knowledge objectives:

Students will be able to learn about new words and expressions,

such as coordinate, halt, pace, adjust, amaze, now that, make it,

even if, etc.

Students will be able to learn about some new language points,

such as be urged to do sth, see to it that, etc.

2. Ability objectives:

Students will be able to learn abut how to tell an impressive

story.

Students can continue to practise reading skills, including

skimming and scanning.

Students will be able to think of the positive influence

of deep caring.

procedure 【1】Warming up

1. At the very beginning, play a guessing game. What

day is the third Sunday of June?

2. Then ask students two questions and have a

brainstorming. How many kinds of love should we keep in

mind? What is the father in your eyes?

【2】Pre-reading

Listen to a passage about a man’s memory of his

father and think about two questions.

Why did people stare at the son and his father when

they walked together on the street?

What is the difference between how the son felt about

his father when he was younger and how he feels now?

【3】While reading

1. Skimming

Read the passage quickly and divide it into several

parts.

Para. 1-5 The son was embarrassed when people cast

eyes on him walking with his crippled father, but the

father was subjected to the humiliation and pressure

silently without any complaint.

Para. 6-7 The son now realizes that his father

treated others and life with a kind heart.

Para 8-11 The father enjoyed life by participating

in activities together with his son.

Para. 12-13 The father has gone for many years and

the son always feels sorry for not letting his father

know his regret and admiration.

For this passage, what is the type of writing?

2. Scanning Read the first part and answer the questions.

How did the writer feel to be seen with his father

when he was young? What did his father do?

From paragraph 6 and 7, what is the author’s

understanding on the “good heart”?

Read paragraph 8, 9 10 and 11, tell me why this father

have good heart?

Writing skill: The story includes some paragraphs in

which the writer starts with a general point and then

presents a number of examples to support his point.

Rhetorical device: Here the author used a kind of

rhetorical devices, parallelism. Parallelism is a

balance of two or more similar words, phrases or clauses.

From the paragraph 12 and 13, how does the writer

feel about his father now after his father’s death?
