The romantic era
The Romantic era of English literature was an almost complete reversal of the principles of the Neoclassical era and was well represented by William Wordsworth. In the Neoclassical era, as the name suggests, the focus of literature was to imitate the classics of Greece and Rome and to uphold an orderly society. But this ideal changed with the French Revolution in 1789, when old concepts of society, and thus also literature, were overturned. Sharing emotions was at the core of the Romantic movement. By understanding and communicating their own inner lives, the Romantics believed, they could bring their readers to a new understanding of life, love, and the struggles of ordinary people. The works of William Wordsworth exemplify this ideal in a memorable way, with poems that continue to resonate with people to this day.
Wordsworth‘s stay in Paris, Orléans, and Blois proved decisive in three important respects
