Good afternoon, everybody!It’s my great honor to stand here sharing my teaching ideas with you. It is a reading class .Based on the reading material, I will divide my teaching analysis into three main parts: teaching material analysis, students analysis, teaching procedure analysis. Well, now I am going to start from the first part: teaching material analysis.The topic of this unit is “a land of diversity”——USA,the multicultural country. So the reading material chooses “California”, the most multicultural state, as a typical case to embody the special character “diversification”. In addition, the reading material is closely related to the knowledge of geography and history which the students have learnt during their senior period. So with the assist of what they have known, I believe they will have a better understanding to the material. Then I’d like to talk about the teaching aims of this lesson: the knowledge aim is to help students learn the immigrant culture in the history of California; the ability aim is enable the students to retell the history of California; the emotional goal is to broaden their horizons and cultivate the cross-culture communication awareness. The important points of my class: 1, help my students master the reading skills skimming and scanning to get information quickly; 2, enable my students to talk about the important events in California history using the information they get from the text. Of course, the latter is also the teaching difficult points.According to the analysis above all, I’d like to carry out the following methods to deal with my lesson and achieve my teaching goals: communicative teaching methods; task-based teaching method; computer-assisted method; situational teaching method. And in order to practice my teaching methods better, the following teaching aids I will used: a computer, the text book, a quiz paper and the blackboard.Next I would like to talk about the students analysis.As the senior students, they have known more about the background information and have a better language foundation, so it is not so difficult for them to learn the content of the passage and master the reading skills. However, they are not so active to speak in class. So the design of my class is to combine the reading with thinking and speaking.The last part, I will continue my teaching procedure analysis. I have designed the following steps:Step 1: warming upI will divide my students into three or four parts and then start a competition by racing to answer my questions about American which relevant to the formation of multicultural. The purpose is to create a relaxing and activity atmosphere and recall the students’ memory about the knowledge they have learnt before, making better preparation for the next part——reading。
Step 2: pre-readingBefore reading, I will let my students make a guesstimate:Looking at the title of this unit and combine with the headline, subtitle and the picture in the passage, could you make a guess what the text want to talk about? Why?We can always get some important information by reading the title of the article, quick and convenient. So it is a good approach for students to start reading.Step 3: fast readingTask-based teaching method is used in fast reading and careful reading which can give my students a clear and specific purpose while skimming and scanning the passage. By fast reading, they will check their guess and get the general idea about the whole passage.Step 4.careful readingQuestions based on each paragraph can lead them seize the important points of the content and under stand the passage better. The competition can arouse students’ interests and create the atmosphere of achievement, also cultivate the sense of cooperation. The following exercise especially the time flow chart can check their memory and preparer for next part –oral practice. Step 4 oral practiceWith the basis of the information they get from reading material, I will design an activity: role play. The students will have a pair work. Student A is a reporter of a magazine, student B is an American student. A is interviewing B in the hall about California. The question is based on the information they have get from the passage. The purpose is to let the students have a better standing of the text and take an oral practice.Step 5 wrapping upFinish the comprehending exercise 3, have a group discussion and tell their ideas to the class.This step can also regard as a summary of the text. At the same time, it can cultivate the students’ cooperation ability and arouse their cross-cultural communication awareness.That’s all of my teaching ideas about this lesson.
