考研英语中，书信的考查各种各样，大体分为建议信、投诉信、道歉信、感谢信、慰问信、祝贺信等等十几种。
其中，建议信的考查又最为频繁，短短10年间，就考了四次，分别是XX年、XX年、XX年和最近的XX年。
建议信是就与自己密切相关的某个或某些问题向有关个人、部门、机构提出合理性的建议，目的是让对方接受自己的主张，已解决现存问题，因此建议信要求简明扼要、目的明确、建议合理、理由充足，以更好地说服对方接受自身想法。
写作时，务必要顾忌收信人的感受，指出对方不足、提出建议时语言要委婉和礼貌，切忌质询、命令的口吻。
一般来说，在考研英语中，建议信的主体部分可按照三个步骤进行，即“三步走”策略。
首段：自我介绍，表明相关;表扬在先，建议在后。
中段：具体建议细节。
尾段：期望被采纳，表示感谢。
