Task 4 Passage & Conversation Listening. Passage 1 A four-stroke diesel engine is mainly used as a main engine or to drive a generator on board ship. It consists of fixed parts, moving parts, fuel injection device and air charge mechanism, ect. It consissts of four enents: sucton, compression, expansion and exhaust. When the air is sucked into the cylinder, it is comprsssed by the moving piston to very haigh prsssure. Its temperature and pressure rise to very high value.. Then fuel is injected ing hot, high pressure air and in ignited, producing much high pressure. The ht gas expanans to force the piston dowwards. When the piston reaches a certain point, the exhaust valve is opened and the exhaust gas in the cylinder is discharged from the exhaust valve. And then the fresh air enters the cylinder. Then another cycle begins.
