1、不定冠词的用法不定冠词a/an与one同源，表示微弱的“一”概念，在很多情况下译成“一，每”，有时不必译出，用来表示不特定的人或事物。
a用于辅音因素或半元音音素前，an用于元音音素前。
①表示“一”的概念；Rome was not built in a day. (谚语)罗马非一日建成。
②泛指某（一）个人或某（一）个事物；A car is waiting at the school gate. 一辆汽车停在学校门口。
③表示某种职业、身份、地位、国籍，常不译；I want to be an engineer after graduation.毕业后我想当一名工程师。
④同类中的任何一个，可与any互换；A tiger can be very mild. 老虎有时也会很温顺。
⑤表示单位量词的“每”，可与per, each, every互换；In order to shape myself, I attend Yoga class twice a week.为了塑造自己的体型，我每周参加两次瑜伽班。
2、定冠词的用法定冠词与this/that/these/those同源，主要是对后面的名词起限定作用，表特指，意为“这，那，这些，那些”等。
①表示特定的人或事物，可表示上文提到过的人或事物，也可指上文未提到过但谈话双方都知道的人或事物；I went to a university in New Zealand. The university was set up in the early 20th century. 我在新西兰的一所大学就读，这所大学建立于20世纪初。
