P5 Passage 1（英译汉）Following is the speech by Hong Kong Commissioner for Tourism, Ms Margaret Fong, at the luncheon for the travel trade in Mumbai, India:Distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen,I am delighted to join today's luncheon for our travel trade partners from India and Hong Kong.To most of us in Hong Kong, Mumbai is not unfamiliar. The city is synonymous with the "Film City of India". Bollywood is one of the largest centres of film production in the world and the movies find a ready market in Hong Kong.Several months ago, when I was attending an international conference on movies' impact on tourism in Hong Kong, I told the audience that movies, like travelling, allow one to take a snapshot of a different way of life. Indeed, both films and tourism appeal to our emotion, stimulate our imagination and indulge our fantasies. They are the true "dream factories".As tourism operators, we work to make our clients' dreams come true. We help them live their fantasies during their travel, experiencing the magic first hand.Last year, Hong Kong received 29.5 million visitors. That means some 29.5 million people from all over the world have chosen to live their dreams in Hong Kong. And why?As Asia's world city, Hong Kong is a widely acclaimed tourist destination known for its international outlook, sophistication and diversity.We are the region's aviation hub with flight connections to some 150 cities, including major cities in India. We operate a liberal visa regime where the citizens of 170 countries/ territories can enter Hong Kong without a visa. This of course applies to Indian nationals who enjoy 14 days of visa-free access. Such travel convenience speaks for our desire to welcome friends from round the world to make Hong Kong your home or home away from home.To make Hong Kong fun and appealing, we have attractions that meet the needs of every visitor. For families, we have our two flagship theme parks, the Ocean Park and Disneyland; the spectacular Ngong Ping 360 cable car; and the world-famous Madame Tussads. 访问期间，我与四川大学、清华大学及北京大学更新和签署了合作谅解备忘录。
华盛顿大学与中国有着广泛的联系。
除了每年派遣近200名学生到中国留学以外，还招收300多名中国留学生和越来越多的访问学者。
2009年，有200多名研究人员代表中国一些顶尖的学术机构在华盛顿大学从事研究。
我此次访问中国，其实也蕴含了一层个人的意义。
我父母都出生在中国，上个世纪30年代末移居美国。
他们都曾在中国获得了学位。
我一直希望能来中国更好地学习中文，熟悉祖先的文化和历史。
我为能代表华盛顿大学来进一步加强双边合作关系感到荣幸。
我希望能开辟更多的与中国学术机构交流的渠道，并在埃莫特校长和汉森副教务长访问的基础上百尺竿头，更进一步。
最后，祝中国人民富裕安康，生活幸福！祝两国人民之间的友好关系得到进一步加强！朋友们，再见！Washington university’s Provost Liz wise’s speech in ChinaLadies and gentlemen:First of all, please allow me to thank you all for your kind invitation to attend t he party and your hospitality during my visit.Six days ago, we have gathered here.The memory of that scene still fresh in my mind.Today, at the end of my visit in China, I sincerely and happily get toget her with you and say goodbye.This was my first trip to China as a dean, though the visit is short, but it's effective. During my visit, I Updated and signed a mem orandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation with Sichuan University, Tsingh ua University and Peking University.Washington University have extensive contact with China. In addition to send nearly 200 students to study in China each year, Washington University also recr uited more than 300 Chinese students studying abroad and more and more visiti ng scholars. In 2009, there were more than 200 researchers who represented s ome famous academic institutions were engaged in researches in Washington U niversity.My visit to China actually contains personal significance. My parents have born in China, and migrated to the USA in the last 1930s. They both have gotten a d egree in China. And I want to come to China to learn Chinese better, and have a n intimate knowledge of our ancestor’s culture and history all the time.It's my honor to represent Washington University to further strengthen Bilate ral Cooperation. I hope that more channels can be opened up of communication with Chinese academic institutions, and I will make further progress on the basis of Emmott principal and Hansen Associate Provost's visit.Finally, may Chinese people happiness!
