A wealthy old woman
named Miss Havisham, who is always wears an old wedding dress everywhere she goes and keeps all the clocks in her house stopped at the same time. She asks pip's uncle to find a boy of a certain age and bring him to her home to play with her daughter.pip was selected .

On Christmas Eve, around 1812, Pip, an orphan who is
age seven, encounters an escaped convict in the village churchyard . The convict scares Pip into stealing food and a file to grind away his shackles. Pip did it. The next day, soldiers recapture the convict while he is engaged in a fight with another escaped convict; the two are returned to the prison ships.
His 1843 novella, A Christmas Carol, remains popular and continues to inspire adaptations in every artistic genre. Oliver Twist and Great Expectations are also frequently adapted, and, like many of his novels, evoke images of early Victorian London. His 1859 novel, A Tale of Two Cities, is his best known work of historical fiction.

BACKGROUND
Great Expectations is set in early Victorian England, a time when
great social changes were sweeping the nation. The Industrial Revolution of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries had transformed the social landscape, enabling capitalists and manufacturers to amass huge fortunes. Although social class was no longer entirely dependent on the circumstances of one’s birth, the divisions between rich and poor remained nearly as wide as ever. Throughout England, the manners of the upper class were very strict and conservative: gentlemen and ladies were expected to have thorough classical educations and to behave appropriately in innumerable social situations.
Over his career, he edited a weekly journal for 20 years, wrote 15 novel
s, five novellas and hundreds of short stories and nofiction articles, lectured and performed extensively, was an indefatigable letter writer.
