Life experience Yan Fu's Translation Theory Translated works
He opens Evolution and Ethics with the story of Jack and the Bean Stalk as a metaphor for cyclical evolution— the small seed that becomes a mature plant. Huxley then takes the reader on a journey through
Yan greatly modified Huxley’s original essays to advocate social Darwinism in China. He believes that the principle of evolution applies to both the natural and human world. To Yan, human,just as other organisms, is subject to the law of natural selection. So for a nationality to survive, it must positively adapt to the surrounding environment and to keep progressing.
Life experience
In 1895, he was involved in the Gongche Shangshu movement. In 1897, Yan Fu served as an editor of the newspaper Guowen Bao. In 1912, he became the first principal of National Peking University. Later, He became a royalist and conservative who supported Yuan Shikai (袁世凯) and Zhang Xun ( 张勋) to proclaim themselves emperor. On October 27, 1921 Yan Fu died at the age of 69.

In 1877–79, he studied at the Royal Naval College, Greenwich, England. In 1879-90, he obtained a teaching position at the Fujian Arsenal Academy and then Beiyang Naval Officers' School. Life experience
Born on January 8, 1854 in Fuzhou ,Fujian province. In 1867, Yan Fu entered the Fujian Arsenal Academy (福州船政学堂) where he studied a variety of subjects including English, arithmetic, geometry, trigonometry, physics, chemistry, astrology and navigation. In 1871-76 , he served aboard the training ship Jianwei (建威) and later on the battle cruiser Yangwu(阳武).
