甚至还有专为极限运动而设立的称为冬季极限运动会的特奥会，比赛项目包括雪山赛车和攀冰运动等。
每年夏天在美国的罗得岛都会举行极限运动竞技比赛，比赛项目包括冲浪式特技跳伞，即在打开降落伞前踩着小冲浪板乘风翱翔的一种特技跳伞等。
是什么原因使得极限运动如此受欢迎呢？我向主要是因为人们喜爱惊险刺激。特别是城市居民渴望在周末走到户外从事一些具有挑战性的运动。借助现代先进的装备，人们能参与更惊险的运动而无损毫发。
危险正是极限运动的部分魅力所在。一旦你尝试过山地骑车或是雪地滑板，会觉得普通的自行车或滑雪运动很乏味，难以退而去享受它们的乐趣。
当然，极限运动并不适合所有人。大多数人还是更喜欢玩篮球、棒球或是观看电视上的体育节目。不过极限运动确实是越来越受欢迎了。这种新颖刺激的运动很可能在将来成为风潮。
