作为英国历史最悠久的艺术学院， Glasgow School of Art (GSA)不仅 培育了诸如近年在艺术圈大热的西 蒙·斯卡林和理查·赖特（分别为 2005和 2009年 特纳奖得主），同 时作为一代建筑奇才Mackintosh的 母校，格拉斯哥美院的主楼 Mackintosh Building 更是现代建 筑史上的珍宝。

出于文脉和历史建筑保护的考量，Reid Building无论是在高度还是结构上都和Mackintosh Building 相对统一，在建筑风格上形成一种“共生关系”。
后来因大火而烧毁了Mackintosh Building 的画廊和图书馆，Steven Holl在此基础上做了重建。
